The Strand Bookstore

Come one come all this next post if for all those out there who love books! The Strand Bookstore is a famous landmark house of literature that ranks among the best in the world including Shakespeare & Co. in Paris and City Lights Books in San Francisco.

Known simply as "The Strand", this independent bookstore is located in New York's East Village at 12th Street and Broadway Avenue just south of Union Square Park. Famous among New Yorkers for its giant collection of used, rare, out-of-print, and best selling books, one could spend hours rummaging the shelves and sorting through the chaos of literature. Believe me, they don't carry the slogan "18 Miles of Books" for nothing.

Make sure to stop in here if you want to dig the local literature scene they are always posting signings, readings, and other events in the city. Also be sure to pick up a book to support your independent bookstores! Note the racks of $1 books that they keep just outside the store, most often if you look hard enough you can find some real gems!

For all those hard-core readers out there like myself, check out "The Strand 80" at this link (http://www.strandbooks.com/app/www/p/booklist/?listid=strand80) which is their list of the must read books of our lifetime including everything from the Classics to Hemingway to Harry Potter! I have been knocking them off the list over the years but still have many more to go!

Happy reading everyone!
