Crif's Hot Dogs/P.D.T.

This next location in N.Y.C. is just plain AWESOME! On the outside Crif's Hot Dogs. A dodgy, East Village hole-in-the-wall hot dog joint known for their variety of greasy dogs absolutely perfect when you're craving some late night grub. Their "New Yorker" frank is my favorite and highly recommended with all the fixins!

However, like something out of a novel, pick up the phone in their vintage telephone booth and watch as the back of the booth opens. Pass through and know you're in Please Don't Tell, better known as PDT. Once a speak-easy back in the roaring 20's and days of prohibition, PDT is a cozy, sex cocktail-lounge that makes you feel like a celebrity. Along with its classic quality cocktails as well as a well chosen selection of beer and wine, patrons can order food straight from the kitchen of Crif's. Oddly enough the mix of dive and classy works, but if greasy dogs just aren't your thing PDT does offer a smaller lounge menu with burgers among other choices. The idea to me is genius and a time saver: food you eat when you're drunk, served while you're in the process of getting that way.

PDT can get pretty crowded at times and will in fact turn people away if there isn't enough room inside. I'd recommend going there for early cocktails to avoid the crowds.
