This next activity is perfect for those who are looking for a relaxing yet unique day in New York City's famous Central Park. Whether you're with your significant other or out with some friends or family, gently rowing your own boat on a warm summer's day in Central Park's twenty-two acre lake is a must-do for anyone living or visiting New York City. Now although it is extremely famous (I'm sure you've all seen this done in movies, photos, etc.), this tucked away lake, in the middle of one of the world's biggest cities, provides the most peaceful and serene experiences so easily available, yet seldom done by visitors who just do not think to do it. Well that's what I am here for. Take the information I give you and please please PLEASE put this into your agenda.
The Loeb Boathouse is located on the east side of the park between 74th and 75th streets. Rowing is available from April 15th though October, weather permitting of course, and boats can be rented at the boathouse daily from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm, with all boats required to be returned by 6:30 pm. Rentals cost $12 cash for the first hour, and $2.50 for each additional 15 minutes. They do not take reservations but I've never waited more than 15 or so minutes. Also please note that a $20 cash deposit is required and it's up to 4 people per boat.
If you so choose, Gondola Rides are also available from 5:00 pm - 9 pm Monday - Friday and 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm Saturday and Sunday. Rides cost $30 per half hour. They also offer bicycle rentals that range from $9-$15 per hour and you must leave a credit card, driver's license, or passport as deposit.
