Strawberry Fields Forever

By far my favorite section of Central Park, this serene nook of New York City is the perfect memorial for the late John Lennon. Once a favorite place of his to stroll and enjoy time with family across the street from his flat in the Dakota Building, Strawberry Fields is now a meeting place for John Lennon and Beatles fans from all corners of the globe. On any given day you can hear guitars softly strumming John Lennon tunes, gaze at paintings of the local scenery, or join in on conversations on just how amazing the Beatles are.

Located right off Central Park South at 72nd Street, this area of the park is easily accessible via the B or C subway line. Make sure to take in the beautiful Dakota Building, once home to Lennon, located right across the street which was built in 1884, in a then very rural Upper West Side. Sadly, John Lennon was shot as he was entering his home in October, 1980 at the age of 40. In his memory, Yoko Ono had their favorite area landscaped and a mosaic memorial laid five years after his death. The memorial is a triangular piece of land falling away on the two sides of the park, and its focal point is this circular mosaic which contains the title of Lennon's famous song: "Imagine". This mosaic is often laid with flowers and various tributes to Lennon. Be sure to continue along the pathway and venture into the park for a memorable Central Park stroll.

I've taken many visiting friends to this stunning part of the park and everyone agrees, John Lennon fan or not, it's quite impressive. As a huge Beatles and John Lennon fan myself, I find myself visiting Strawberry Fields time and time again and I'd recommend this to anyone and everyone visiting or living in NYC.
